Plus your normal salary/wages for that month. Disregarding your actual mechanical ability, what project car do you build?
For me: Find one of these with good bones - here in the south they’re still around and can be had for under $1k:
Find a crashed one of these:
For less than $4k
Call my metal-fabricator cousin and friends and get to wrenchin’

This for a £1000
Swap the 2JZ for a £500 1UZ.
Snap myself a dual exhaust system for £1000 because I like symmetry.
Spend the rest on interior upgrades most importantly screens and tables.

Put some cams in my Prelude. Would need cams, valvetrain, preferably injectors and fuel rail, and while i’m at it i’ll get a new exhaust. Whatever is left i’d put into suspension, a set of hardcore summer tires for my Euro-R wheels and then some rust repair.

I’d test the myth that I can get an old VW Beetle, disassemble it, then put together 2 fully functional VWs from the parts.

I’d put it into my e38. New fuel tank and pump, new rear control arms and ball joints, rust repair and paint on doors and rear wheel wells, new heater blower motor and resistor, new interior and exterior drivers door handles, new seat switch plastics....
Probably better off finding a mint 750 and rolling the 10 grand into that though.
DC3 LS, will be perpetually replacing cars until the end of time

Do a full suspension rebuild on my teg with a few upgrades. Swap in a rebuild GS-R motor and Type-R tranny for LSD goodness.
Spend the rest on the other type of LSD.

Here’s the thing. My mechanical ability isn’t what I wish it was. I could have 1 year off and wouldn’t be able to accomplish much because I simply don’t have the skills to do so.
But, assuming that I DO have the skills to do so, I’d put
an S2K engine/trans combo:
in a CRX shell

Restore a ‘95 Integra GS-R sedan. Body work, engine rebuild, and suspension refresh - just like my first car but without the issues. Sometimes you can go back home, ideally while screaming towards a stratospheric redline.
Out, but with a W - has found the answer

What perfect timing. I just found a business with multiple King Midget projects for sale. The good part is I would be able to do paint, body, interior and mechanical work on one in a month for less than $10k
For something more useful when finished I but where $10k and 30 days wouldn’t be enough money or time to actually finish I would look for a 40-50's Desoto or one of the many Triumph or MG projects I see pop up for sale.
This has been available for awhile with a $6k asking price. I can do any mechanical work myself. Having good paint and body to work with would be a huge money saver.

The engine and transmission from the 310 go into the Dauphine. I can get a solid Dauphine for cheap (if I can find one) and an old PRV for cheap (if I can find one), I have no clue what the actual transmission and the cost for the transmission will be.

This would be the moment for my dream twin-drivetrain swap.
My current daily is an E36 Compact, which I like quite a bit, but I think would be awesome with an S54. I know it would make much more sense to just buy an E46 M3(and it’s far more likely I eventually end up buying an E46 M3 or something else faster rather than actually doing this) but in my little dream world this is so much more unique/interesting and also faster being much lighter. The second part of my twin-drivetrain swap dream is that I’ll now be left with a perfectly good M44 1.8, which is actually a pretty decent little engine, that would go great in a 2002.
Budget: I already have the E36($0) + S54 WITH 6-speed trans($6800)+engine-less 2002(~$1000)=$7800
I know I’d probably end up overbuget with parts and odds/ends but it would be close. Especially considering I would probably need to do suspension/brake work on both.

Finish my 900ss race bike. Full Ohlins suspension, build the motor out with Pistal high comp pistons, get the heads ported and polished. Velocity stack intake. Lightened flywheel. Forged magnesium wheels. Carbon fuel cell tank. Finish custom fabbing a titanium subframe. Starlane davinci LED dash. Brembo RCS brake and clutch master cylinders. EBC rotors and pads. Pirelli superbike slicks. Larger oil cooler if I have extra money lying around.

Id find something that I can fully fix in a week so that I can spend the other 3 weeks driving the piss out of it! Since I want it to be an adventure why not go with a rotary car that I always wanted?
Sure it will probably break but thats part of the challenge. Considering I have $5k leftover, I should be able to deal with complications. Especially since im still getting paid from work so I can easily afford it no matter the nightmare it becomes.
Then I will try to drive it like 5000 miles or some shit on a trip around the country.

Lol why not just buy an NA and put the RX8 motor in there? That would be a less terrible but still fun idea.

Convertible CRX.... I’ve actually given this some serious thought. It should be very doable. It’s just going to be a ton of work. I’ve actually seen it done before and I think it would make for an awesome summer commuter.
That, or I would just swap an LS into my S-10 and bag it. and leave everything else the exact same.
